STA
- Special Temporary Authority. An FCC authorization that allows a satellite or earth station operator to conduct operations not covered by an existing license, typically for a limited period of up to 180 days.
- STAs are commonly filed to cover pre-launch testing, emergency operations, interim service during a pending license modification, or operations using frequencies or orbital parameters outside the scope of a current authorization. Filed through IBFS using SAT-STA or SES-STA prefixes.
