Space Regulatory Glossary Spectrum
interference
- Unwanted radio frequency energy that disrupts or degrades a satellite communication link. Interference can originate from other satellite systems operating on adjacent frequencies, terrestrial transmitters, or even natural sources like solar noise.
- Avoiding harmful interference is the central purpose of spectrum coordination at both the national (FCC) and international (ITU) levels. Operators must demonstrate through technical analysis that their system will not cause unacceptable interference to existing services before receiving a license.
